Porsche Cayenne Turbo Balrog Body Kit
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=793
A remaking of the Porsche Cayenne Turbo coming out of France. Yes, it's definitely worth a look.
The Cayenne Turbo Balrog is the work of car stylist Jeremie Paret, former editor-in-chief of the French luxury tuning magazine Modify, who last year branched out into a new business to start Balrog's Garage.
Their first offering is this body kit for the Cayenne Turbo, where onto that canvass, for starters, is added a new grill, a set of side lights as well as 'angel eyes' fog lights. Balrog provides a new bumper for the Cayenne, which also improves intercooler function and helps cool down the front brakes a little more too.
The wide fenders will help fit bigger wheels to the Cayenne Turbo while the large lips and side skirts provide for some extroversion of the styling. A rear spoiler and diffuser improve aerodynamics as well as looks.
One wonders what this costs. But this is luxury tuning. It's unsporting to ask such questions.

Ferrari Enzo XX by Edo Competition
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=794
Edo Competition has released a new performance package for the Ferrari Enzo.
Dubbed the XX, the package features a full engine makeover that includes new steel cylinders, pistons, camshafts, valve springs, and Titan connecting rods. The company also adds new oil cooling piston pipes, new exhaust manifolds, a sport air filter, an air-ram system, a high performance clutch, and a new oil pump.
Edo also equips the XX with a carbon-ceramic braking system, a carbon-fiber air intake, a new fuel cooling system, and black racing wheels with Michelin high performance tires. One of the more interesting changes is a stainless steel sport catalytic converter that features two different exhaust notes which are controlled via a dash-mounted switch.
Thanks to all these improvements, the Enzo XX produces an estimated 588 kW and 780 Nm of torque. Performance figures are expected to include a 0-100 km/h time of 3.2 seconds, a 0-300 km/h time of 19 seconds, and a top speed in excess of 380 km/h.

Edo Competition pumps C63 to 408kW
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=795
Edo Competition is best known for outlandish Italian supercar modification packages.
Despite this penchant for Latin performance they do a rather neat job with some more domestic products too – like Merc’s C63…
The Ahlen based tuner’s C63 package is not quite the most powerful aftermarket option around (Väth and Carlsson do swifter C63 options) it’s still quite neat.
Finished in regulation C63-tuner black, this Edo kit is particularly subtle, leaving the original AMG styling package relatively stock - mercifully.
According to Edo remarkable comfort, sporty manners and long distance capability were the key design parameters.
We have no reason to doubt them, bar for those 19-inch Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tyres, which should notch the C63’s ride quality to an even lower ebb – as if it’s possible.
As with the stock C63 AMG, this Edo model is all about that 6.2l hand built V8 combusting above the front axle.
It’s probably the most evil-sounding front axle mounted V8 in production currently and now has additional power and even more alarming acoustics thanks to some meticulous tuning by Edo’s technicians.
Electronic engine control algorithms are significantly recalibrated to cope with a custom exhaust system and new extraction headers, high-flow catalytic converters and performance air filters.
Subsequently, power output is up from 336kW to 408kW (which illustrates the mellow stock state of tune) and rotational force increases from 600- to 680Nm.
Find a proper surface and Edo guarantees 0-100km/h in 4.3 seconds, whilst the 408kW peak power output will carry you to a derestricted top speed of 320km/h.
The V8’s remarkable acoustic signature has been improved with butterfly valves which open and close at variable back-pressures within the stainless steel exhaust system.
This self-actuating system is augmented by integrated 70mm exhaust flaps which open at a predetermined level of back-pressure, ensuring an optimal flow of torque at low speed and free flow of power at maximum engine speed.
Combined they make for a heady mix of V8 resonance too, which is hardly a coincidence.
Best known for fettling Ferrari, Lamborghini and Maserati products, the subtle C63 tuning exercise must have been a bit of a chore for the Edo technical team.
Considering the C63 AMG’s popularity as tuned four-door performance car in Germany, it was a business opportunity which had to be seized upon.

Roadworks spark road rage
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=796
Construction workers posted on Gauteng roads are being killed and injured in accidents sparked by road rage, the South African National Road Agency Limited (SANRAL) said on Wednesday.
"Impatient and aggressive drivers are jeopardising the lives of workers on the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project (GFIP)," traffic
manager Alex van Niekerk said.
There were also instances of verbal abuse and of motorists throwing objects at construction workers.
Van Niekerk explained that road works had become a "feature of the highway network in Gauteng" and it was testing the patience of motorists, who were increasingly adopting dangerous motoring practices to reach their destinations quickly.
The primary cause of accidents was motorists not complying with the 80 km/h limit, he said.
"When this is combined with traffic lanes that are narrower than normal, the use of concrete barriers to delineate working areas and
lane deviations, the consequences of speeding can spell disaster for motorists and workers alike."
Motorcyclists were also at risk.
Van Niekerk said construction would continue until the end of next year and he urged motorists to be patient to avoid tragedy.
"Patience and trip planning, including leaving earlier for destinations when weather conditions deteriorate, will ensure that we all travel safer and avoid tragic incidents."

Ferrari 458 Italia Revealed
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=792
Described as a "massive leap forward" and a "genuine departure from the current range", Ferrari considers the new supercar to be "a synthesis of style, creative flair, passion and cutting-edge technology."
Boasting a futuristic Pininfarina design, the 458 Italia has a compact aerodynamic shape which helps to reduce drag and improve downforce (which is 140 kg at 200km/h). The front end features a bold grille which houses small aero-elastic winglets "which generate downforce and, as speed rises, deform to reduce the section of the radiator inlets and cut drag." Elsewhere, the car features small openings between the hood and headlights for added engine cooling. Out back, the 458 has aggressive rear end which houses a massive diffuser, California-style taillights, and three center-mounted exhaust tips.
Power comes from a new direct injected 4499 cc V8 engine that produces 419 kW (at 9000 rpm) and 540 Nm of torque (at 6000 rpm, with over 80% available from 3250 rpm). This is backed up by a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission which has been specially engineered to match the power and torque curves of the new V8. Ferrari estimates the 458 Italia will rocket from 0-100 km/h in under 3.4 seconds, before hitting a top speed in excess of 325 km/h.
Riding on a lightweight aluminum chassis (the car has a dry weight of 1380 kg), the 458 Italia boasts a 42/58 weight distribution which promises to deliver outstanding driving dynamics. This is further backed up by a twin wishbone front suspension and a multi-link rear set-up. Ferrari also equipped the car with an advanced direct steering system, updated versions of E-Diff and F1-Trac which offer a 32% increase in longitudinal acceleration, and a high performance braking system which cuts the car's 100-0 km/h braking distance to a short 32.5 meters.
As with all Ferraris, the 458 Italia features numerous lessons learned from company's Formula 1 racing efforts. One of the key improvements is a reduction of internal engine friction which helps to improve fuel economy and reduce emissions. Thanks to this racing derived knowledge, the car has fuel consumption rating of 13.7L/100 km while CO2 emissions are 320 g/km. Elsewhere, the company added a unique racing-inspired steering wheel and dashboard which slope down and away from the driver to minimize distractions.
Look for more information and details to be released closer to the 458's official unveiling at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

26 July 2009 - Opel Owners' Club Gerotek
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=25&CntID=791
The OOC once again hosted one of the most awaited events of the year... the high speed oval at Gerotek.
This year saw a lot of new and old favourites take on the most demanding oval track in SA, Gerotek. The track really pushes both man and machine's limits in terms of how far you are willing to push to get that extra km/h.
One of the upsets this year was Paul's OPC, one of the favourites each year by spectators to have the highest speed. The OPC's outing ended in tragedy as detonation caused the number 4 spark plug to destroy itself, also causing damage killing the compression.
We hope you enjoy the images from the event.

RUF announces Rt 12 S with 504kW
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=789
German tuners RUF have developed their work on the 997, with this release of the RUF Rt 12 S. An upgrade from the non-"S" model released in Essen five years ago, the new car gets 504kW from a modified biturbo boxer engine. This is a step up of about 26kW from the Rt 12. The new version also sees a maximum torque output of 880Nm.
Although bodywork appears to be mostly the same as the previous version, there are definitely a few differences. For example, the sideview mirrors have now been lifted from the RUF CTR 3, and the carbon rear spoiler looks to be a bit bigger with its "tearing edge." Rear fenders are also a bit larger, and have new air ducts carved into them. LED lights are inserted into the slot where the fog lamps had been. They also use LEDs for the turn signals. RUF is introducing a newly designed roll cage for this car, something they are including as a standard feature on the vehicle.
The car makes use of custom 19-inch light alloys which neatly house the big ceramic disc brakes. As an option, hydraulics can be added to adjust the ride height by as much as 50mm with the push of a button. Inside, the driver is kept in place by either bucket seats or sport seats. Also, the steering wheel supposedly offers the perfect amount of grip, and has been designed to provide "fatigue-proof driving."
Like its predecessor, the new model can be delivered with either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.

2010 Mazda RX-8 facelift officially announced
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=790
Mazda has officially announced the European release of the facelifted Mazda RX-8. The 2010 model year RX-8 will take center stage at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September, showing the same restyling customers in Japan have received.
Some of the changes include a new front bumper, new headlights, and LEDs incorporated into the rear lights. The front now brings the car more in line with the Mazda 3 and Mazda 6. Although exhaust tips are now round, the triangular shape is still seen in the red reflector at the base of the rear bumper. Mazda is also using new side skirts, as well as new 19-inch alloy wheels.
Under the hood, Mazda will use the unchanged 1.3-liter rotary engine that provides 170kW and 211Nm. The engine now has a second knock sensor, for increased efficiency. Using the six-speed manual, the car can reach 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds. The car tops out at 234 km/h. New engine choice may appear with the 2011 Mazda RX-7, but that is unconfirmed.
Inside, the driver and passenger will be held into place thanks to the Recaro sport seats that combine black cloth and leather. A new instrument cluster, steering wheel, and sound system are included, as well as Bluetooth functionality.

Porsche CEO Wiedeking steps down
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=788
Porsche SE CEO Wendelin Wiedeking has agreed to leave the company he helmed for 16 years as part of a deal to sell sports car marquee Porsche AG to Volkswagen for €8 billion. The resignations of Wiedeking and Porsche CFO Holger Haerter were announced following a meeting of the Porsche supervisory board, and are effective immediately.
Wiedeking spearheaded Porsche's failed takeover attempt of Volkswagen, Europe's largest automaker, allowing his company to increase their ownership of VW to 51 percent with an additional 20% in options. The strategy started in 2005, with Porsche gradually accumulating more shares while fighting with the government of Lower Saxony about the legality of a full takeover. Meanwhile, debt at Porsche swelled to over €10 billion, prompting Porsche to raise capital from outside investors and sell off its sports car division to negate the debt. During the board meeting, Porsche reaffirmed plans to raise a minimum of €5 billion, in part from a Qatar-based investment group.
A meeting this afternoon in Stuttgart by the VW supervisory board is expected to include a declaration of support for Porsche, including the desire to make Porsche the next brand under the VW umbrella. Volkswagen already owns Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Seat, Scania. Skoda, VW, and VW Commercial Vehicles.
The takeover attempt is believed to have widened an already-sizable rift within the family that controls both companys. VW Chairman Ferdinand Piech is the cousin of Porsche SE chair Wolfgang Porsche. Both men are grandchildren of VW Beetle creator Ferdinand Porsche, who also founded Volkswagen. Further complicating matters is Piech's participation as a partial owner of Porsche, and Wolfgang Porsche's membership on Volkswagen's supervisory board.
“Wiedeking’s course has split the families and caused major irritations in Porsche’s working ties with VW,” said Stefan Bratzel in an interview with Bloomberg. Bratzel runs the Center of Automotive Research Institute in Germany. “Wiedeking has no place in a combined VW-Porsche carmaker.”
Porsche may also be in a position to save money by hiring a new CEO to run the firm. Wiedeking received an annual salary equal to 0.9% of pretax profit at the firm, which translated to a roughly €77 million paycheck for July 2007 to July 2008. That high figure was not always the case. When Wiedeking took the helm at Porsche in 1993 he found himself in charge of a nearly bankrupt firm. He transformed Porsche AG into one of the most successful automakers in the world, which boasted higher profit margins than any other automaker worldwide.
Porsche executive board member and production chief Michael Macht will takeover for Wiedeking.

Tax implications threaten VW Porsche deal
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=786
The real-life drama involving Porsche and Volkswagen has taken a new turn as reports out of Germany suggest that the deal could be scuppered by certain tax liabilities. The Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper, which is published in Munich, says it has it on good authority that a tax bill of €3 billion would be attached to a VW/Porsche transaction.
Amid that uncertainty is another allegation that Porsche's debt, currently estimated at €14 billion, could be reduced by firing CEO Dr Wendelin Wiedeking and selling the sports car unit to VW. The allegation is said to have come from shareholder Ferdinand Piech who is said to be in a tussle for the control of both companies with the Porsche family. The two families are related.
Yet another story goes that Wiedeking has already negotiated himself a €100 million severance package and that his successor has been found. Porsche spokespeople deny that the company's debt is that high, that there is a conspiracy to remove its CEO and that there is even a severance package offer on the table.
As it stands a meeting between the two controlling families is scheduled to take place on Thursday where sources say a deal will be struck for Volkswagen AG to pay €8 billion for Porsche AG. At the same time Porsche is discussing a possible tie-up with the state of Qatar which would see the company selling off about 20% of its shareholding to the Arab emirate.

VW turns the tables on Porsche
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=783
For over three years, German manufacturer Porsche SE had worked diligently to complete a takeover of Volkswagen. After a series of missteps, the tables have turned. The predator appears to be close to an agreement that would allow its former prey to instead buy Porsche AG -the sports car division- for about €8 billion ($11.28 billion), according to German newspaper Der Spiegel.
An upcoming July 23 meeting of the Porsche supervisory board could finalize a deal that would give Volkswagen 49.9 per-cent of Porsche AG up front, with the rest available for acquisition in the future. Porsche would become the 10th car brand owned by the Volkswagen Group. Other brands include Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Seat, Scania. Skoda, VW, and VW Commercial Vehicles.
By selling Porsche AG, the sports car's parent company would be able to pay off a considerable portion of its alleged €10 billion debt. Much of that debt was created in Porsche's failed takeover bid of VW, a deal that was largely backed by bank financing that dried up in the wake of the global economic crisis.
The crisis at Porsche will likely lead to a shake-up at the top of the firm. Company CEO Wendelin Wiedeking is reportedly constructing a €100 million golden parachute so he can bail out of the firm. Production head Michael Macht would replace him at the top of Porsche AG, according to Der Spiegel.
The tale is another chapter in the history of two rival factions of a prominent German family. VW Beetle creator Ferdinand Porsche, who created Volkswagen, was the grandfather of both Ferdinand Piech and Wolfgang Porsche. Piech is the chairman of VW and part-owner of Porsche, while his cousin, Wolfgang Porsche, is the chairman of Porsche SE and a member of the VW supervisory board. The two are considered to be bitter rivals.
Piech looks to have gotten the ultimate win over his competitor, but we will not know for sure until the end of that July 23 meeting.

RENNtech R.A.T plug and play ECU upgrade announced
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=784
RENNtech has created a new "plug and play" ECU upgrade module.
Dubbed the R.A.T (RENNtech Auto Tuner), the performance module connects directly to the ECU via the OBD II port. This effectively makes installation a simple one-step process by eliminating the need to remove (or bypass) the stock ECU.
The RAT comes preprogrammed with a variety of RENNtech software which is designed for the ME2.7.1 and ME2.8.1 ECUs used on the E55 AMG and 2006 or earlier, Mercedes V12 turbos. When the RAT is first connected to the OBD II port, it decides which software should be used for that particular vehicle.
Should an owner find the RENNtech performance a tad too aggressive for daily use, they can simply hit a switch on the RAT and revert back to a stock setup. Other unique features include an ECU backup (in case of an interruption during programming) and the availability of custom tuning software for owners willing to use 100-octane fuel.

INDEN-Design tunes Ferrari 430 Spider
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=781
German tuner INDEN-Design does a little number called the F430.
The Haiger, Germany-based tuner starts off with a modified front spoiler, and not just for looks, as its there to help the INDEN-Design F430 achieve a top speed greater than 300 km/h. The aerodynamic kit also includes "muscular" side flaps, a rear carbon diffuser and spoiler which explains the composition in the photos with the F430 standing idly next to an airplane.
Performance enhancement comes by way of a lowered suspension, a stainless-steel sport exhaust system with damper control and some engine electronics trickery which deliver a modest rise in power of 26kW.
The wide track of the F430 is covered by new, lightweight 20-inch wheels with 235/30 R20 tires at the front and 325/25 R20 at the rear.
INDEN-Design also provides some extra luxury and comfort for the cabin. A conjunction of carbon paneling and leather finish, with a variety of color combinations to choose from, help redefine the interior and cockpit. The original leather stitching is extensive, also covering the dashboard, steering wheel and center console.

Abt pumps Audi S4 up to 320kW
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=780
Following the recently reported MTM Audi S4 enhancement, Abt Sportsline takes the Audi S4 into RS4 territory.
The German tuner is now offering a package that provides a considerable kick upstairs in power to the standard Audi S4 model. The S4's already hefty 3.0 liter TFSI V6 is dialed up to 320 kW and 520 Nm of torque as opposed to the production version's 245 kW and 440 Nm.
The resulting performance improvement is evidenced by the new numbers - 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds, compared to 5.1 seconds for the Audi dealer-issued S4. The juiced up model also offers a top speed of 282 km/h, with Abt having lifted the electronic limiter that keeps Audi's S4 maxed out at 250 km/h.
Abt promises lots of driving pleasure (to borrow a phrasing from Audi arch-competitor BMW) from the performance kit and assures us it is perfectly in tune with the Ingolstadt-based brand's 7-speed DSG gearbox in keeping the Abt S4 properly humming along.
The Allgäu-based tuner also offers a quad sports exhaust unit and 18 to 20-inch Abt or BR wheels for the S4.
Abt likely intends this performance tuning package to go along with the styling kit it offers for the A4 model range seen in the photos of the white and silver A4.

Golf VI GTI performance upgrades by MR Car Design
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=778
MR Car Design is a tuner based in Erftstadt which is a town 20km east of Cologne in Germany. On top of being an exhaust specialist they have also tuned a number of cars for customers and are now turning their attention to the Golf VI GTI. Equipped with a KW-thread-sport suspension the car now sits 50mm lower and the front and 40mm lower at the rear.
Oxigin 14 wheels with sizes 8.5x19 and 9.5x19 are fitted. They roll on 225/35-19 tyres. MR Car Design also took care of stopping power by using a Stoptech high performance brake system with 4-piston calipers and slotted brake discs as well as a brake caliper air vent plug. A custom sport exhaust system is fitted. Optionally buyers can get a downpipe with a sport catalytic converter.
The engine has been optimised by using MRCD software. Peak power goes from 155kW up to 191kW. At the same time torque shows a greater improvement from 280Nm to 380Nm. Thanks in no small part to the GTI's XDS traction system the FWD car goes from 0 - 100m/h in 5.8 seconds and achieves a 263km/h top speed. The tuner reckons it is quite a drivable car even on an everyday basis and it returns a good average fuel consumption figure.

Audi A5 Sportback officially revealed
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=779
Audi officially went public with the new Audi A5 Sportback today following months of leaks, teasers, photo shoots, and spy shots. We have seen undisguised photos of the A5 Sportback before, but never this many, and never so high quality.
The vehicle features a smooth design that makes the car look much less like a wagon than the A3 Sportback, while sitting 36mm lower than the A4 sedan. Frameless doors definitely add to the car's clean look. The nicely-angled side windows, ringed in chrome, show off a sporty look with a flowing roofline.
Inside, customers can create either a monotone or contrasting look. Four individual seats are surrounded with a comfortable amount of space no matter how big the passenger. At 480 liters, Audi also provided nearly the same amount of cargo space as the A4 Avant.
Under the hood, we were hoping for at least one higher-powered engine. Three petrol engines include 132kW and 155kW variants of the 2.0-liter TFSI unit, and a 3.2-liter V6 model providing 195kW. If it is diesel you prefer, you can choose the incredibly efficient 2.0-liter TDI. The 125kW unit uses just 5.2 liters of fuel per 100 km, or rougly 45+ mpg. A start/stop system helps increase fuel efficiency. The other TDI engines are a 140kW 2.7-liter unit and a 3.0-liter, 240 horsepower model. The 2.0 TFSI quattro, the 3.2 FSI quattro and the 3.0 TDI quattro models are available with the seven-speed S-tronic gearbox.
Audi will release three more engines for the A5 Sportback within the next year. Each petrol model, and the highest-powered TDI, is fitted with Audi's "quattro" all-wheel drive system, while customers purchasing one of the two most powerful engines may also add on a newly offered sport differential which distributes the drive power in continuously variable proportions between the rear wheels. Those not receiving quattro instead get a stability unit that helps prevent understeer with an electronic front differential. The 132kW 2.0-liter TFSI engine also gets the stability program.
The vehicle will be featured in dealerships beginning in September. A lower-priced version will also be released next year, making the Sportback the entry-level trimline for the A5 series. Audi will likely also release an A7 Sportback by the end of 2010. That car could come with the option of a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 or a V8.

Porsche Panamera Turbo fastest Nurburg Sedan?
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=776
Sport Auto reports that a Porsche Panamera Turbo piloted by the legendary Walter Röhrl has lapped the Nurburgring 3 seconds faster than the supercharged Cadillac CTS-V posting a time of 7:56 minutes. As quick as this is, it goes to show what a good value proposition the Cadillac is. It costs less than half of what the Panamera Turbo costs. Even more impressive regarding the bang-for-buck proposition is that the two other rivals in the Panamera's segment, the Aston Martin Rapide and the upcoming Audi A7, are not expected to be any cheaper than the 415kW Caddy.
Porsche itself has not released official Nurburgring times but if these are accurate then the Panamera will officially replace the Cadillac as the fastest production sedan on the 'Ring . CTS fans may take comfort in the fact that ‘Ring times are highly affected by such things as rubber grades, the weather and other factors.
Over the past year or so Porsche has been embroiled in a battle with Nissan regarding the latter's claim that its GT-R is the fastest production car around the Green Hell. This might be a new avenue for Porsche to stake its claim.

MTM gives 71kW more to Audi S4 3.0 TFSI
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=777
MTM's customers are not interested in the fact that the new Audi S4 with a 3.0-litre TFSI engine makes 245kW. What they are interested in is how much more power their favourite tuner can wring out of the supercharged engine. MTM says it can allow an extra 71kW to be harnessed thanks to its M-Cantronic system. That means the MTM S4 produces 316kW and 515Nm of torque. That is more power than the previous-generation RS 4 which had 309kW and 430Nm running underneath it.
The quattro differential and the 6-speed manual gearbox help the car accelerate from 0 - 100km/h in 4.7 seconds. Buyers have a choice between 19-inch and 21-inch wheels in addition to a height-adjustable suspension system. An exclusive four-pipe oval exhaust system with different optics is also fitted along with MTM brakes.
A6 3.0-litre TFSI owners are not left out either. For them MTM has a special M-Cantronic programme which not only increases their V6's efficiency but gives them an extra dose of 51kW to bring the total to 265kW.
So dynamic is the MTM system that it can be installed and/ or removed in a short space of time, making it ideal for people who are using leased cars as well as outright owners.

GM resurrection last Friday
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=773
GM is gone and a new GM is born.
And the bankrupt Detroit automaker's gimmick has worked. A new company formed from a purchase of the old GM's 'good' assets will emerge from Chapter 11 only 41 days after GM was forced into bankruptcy protection on the 1st of June.
The new company will be majority owned by the US government with a 60.8 percent stake. The Canadian government will also own a 11.7 percent share of the new GM. The US Treasury will have committed some 50 billion dollars to GM by year's end. The remaining share of the now private company will be held by the UAW (17.5 percent) and bondholders who previously held GM debt will get 10 percent of the new GM.
The voyage through Chapter 11 proceedings had to be quick, lest GM brand's suffer terminal damage in the marketplace. But there are still obstacles to overcome. Since the US government now owns GM, Congress can act to exert control, and a majority of House members have voted for a bill that blocks the closing of GM and Chrysler dealerships in order to help save jobs. But GM needs to close the 1,300 dealerships it had planned to in order to trim its operations and become a viable company once again.
Still, the final test will be with consumers. Will they buy GM cars?
The President of GM North America, Troy Clarke, believes it can pass that test. "This is a new General Motors, which is going to be focused on fewer brands, fewer entries...We'll ask for people to please give us that one look. Give us that one consideration and we won't disappoint you."
Sounds desperate. But who isn't these days?

Cargraphic tunes Cayenne Diesel
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=774
Cargraphic has unveiled a new range of styling and performance accessories for the Porsche Cayenne Diesel.
Under the hood, Cargraphic adds a revised ECU module which boosts the 3.0-liter V6 turbo diesel's output from 176kW and 550Nm of torque to 213kW and 630Nm of torque. Although Cargraphic did not provide any performance data, they did state the Cayenne's top speed is increased to 221 km/h.
The company also offers an extensive body kit which includes a new front valance, a rear diffuser, side skirts, and wheel arch extensions. If that doesn't float your boat, perhaps Cargraphic's modified electronic suspension module will do the trick. It has been specially designed to give the Cayenne a low stance which helps to improve aerodynamics and reduce drag.

Abt give Golf VI GTI 191kW and 221kW upgrades
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=775
Racing and tuning house Abt Sportline finally reveals expected upgrades to the Volkswagen Golf VI GTI. Previously Abt had released aero kit and modest performance upgrades for the Golf VI at Essen last year.
The standard GTI is known for producing 155kW out of its 2.0-litre four-pot turbo engine. Power has been upped to 191kW which is the same as the Mazda3 Speed/MPS. The engine size remains the same but the ECU and exhaust system have been reworked. A new turbocharger has also been used. It does not stop there however. A second package takes the power up to 221kW which is just 4kW short of a BMW 135i. Performance is 0 - 100km/h in 6 seconds.
Abt suspension springs and brakes are fitted and the suspension system itself is lowered by 30mm. A four-pipe exhaust emits a sporty sound to compliment the kit. The body kit consists of LED lights, a new Abt front grille, spoiler, side bar and a rear spoiler. There is also a front lip. Customers will have a choice of between 18-inch and 19-inch wheels.
The interior is different with red accents on the instrument panel, the dashboard, door trim and the steering wheel.

G-Power makes BMW M3 E46 faster than new M3
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=771
Tuning firm G-Power has created a new performance package for the BMW M3 E46.
Dubbed the SK I supercharger system, the package consists of a large ASA TM I 20 centrifugal supercharger which enables BMW's 3.6-liter inline-six to produce 331kW and 450Nm of torque (up from 252kW/365Nm). Thanks to the additional 107 hp, the G-Power M3 E46 accelerates from 0-200 km/h in 14.7 seconds, which beats the 15.8 second time posted by BMW's 309kW V8-powered M3 E92.
If G-Power's 20-inch "Silverstone diamond" alloy wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport tires are also ordered with the SK I supercharger system, the M3 E46's top speed increases to more than 300 km/h. Other optional equipment includes a high performance stainless steel muffler and a continuously height-adjustable G-POWER coil-over suspension with nine selectable settings.

2010 Jaguar XJ Officially Revealed
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=772
As promised the all-new Jaguar XJ has been unveiled during an exclusive event at the Saatchi Gallery in London this evening. Jaguar Cars Managing Director Mike O'Driscoll was the key speaker at the event while talk show host and car nut Jay Leno was the host. The list of VIP guests included celebrities, business leaders and other public figures.
Jaguar anticipates that the super luxury British sedan will infuse a daring new spirit in its segment, thanks to a bold new design direction, good performance and a high standard of engineering excellence.
"The new XJ is a thoroughly modern interpretation of the quintessential Jaguar," said Ian Callum, Design Director and the man who penned the XF as well. "Its visual impact stems from the elongated teardrop shape of the car's side windows, that powerful stance and its wide track. It is the most emphatic statement yet of Jaguar's new design direction."
A standout exterior feature is the panoramic glass roof that not only creates extra interior light but also gives the XJ a lower roofline. Jaguar says it will offer both the standard car and the long-wheel-base version right from the get go. The latter is 125mm longer but both versions have a boot as big as 520 litres in volume.
Aerospace-inspired aluminium body architecture was used in constructing the XJ, making it lighter (by at least 150kg) than its competitors. That of course improves performance and fuel consumption. The aluminium solution will allow Jaguar to better its carbon footprint because it has 50 percent recyclable material and is potentially able to save up to three tonnes of C02 gases per car.
Some driving comfort technologies utilised include the Adaptive Dynamics - which is continuously variable damping - an air suspension system, and active differential control.
The interior space features chrome and piano black detailing, leather and veneer surfaces, and other niceties depending on whether customers choose the Luxury, Premium Luxury, Portfolio, Supercharged or the range-topping Supersport models.
The gadgets and comfort creatures list has things like an 8-inch touch screen for playing DVD movies, a 1200W Bowers & Wilkins sound system and the Media Hub.
The Gen III petrol and turbo diesel engines make their way into the XJ. These are the 3.0-litre V6 diesel, the 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 with 283kW, the 5.0-litre V8 supercharged making 375kW and a new 346kW version of the supercharged V8. Jaguar's official combined economy figure for the diesel is 7.04 l/100km and its C02 emissions figure is 184g/km. The rear wheels are driven through a 6-speed ZF automatic gearbox.
Orders have been opened for the XJ and deliveries will begin in early 2010.

Rex Accelero introduces widebody kit for SLK55 AMG
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=770
The tuners at Rex Accelero came up with this widebody kit when attempting to answer the question of what an SLK 55 AMG Black Series modeled after the SL 65 AMG Black Series could look like. They came up with this look which was done by moving out the front and rear fenders by about 2.5 inches. Doing this allowed for the aerodynamic parts to be placed in such a way as to give the car room to be used as a track day device.
A carbon fiber lip plus a rear diffuser will be installed in the final production models. Minimum weight and strength will be ensured by using a vacuum-bag construction. Thus a 50:50 weight distribution can be achieved. Some aspects are still being tweaked ahead of the opening of the pre-order book in September.
This prototype also has over-sized tyres, H&R springs, and a standard engine. Although not the 400hp unit from the limited SLK 55 AMG Black Series, it is the same 5.4-litre V8 worth 270kW but the California-based tuner has plans to introduce it to a supercharger and make it go beyond 368kW. Such a thing is possible; the legendary E 55 AMG had the exact same engine, also with a supercharger and it made 350kW.

Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG Info Revealed
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=769
More details of the Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG have been released. The car is the top-of-the-range model and features certain equipment that other E-Class models don't. Most important of these and the one that makes it stand out is the 6.3-litre (6208 cc) V8 engine that has remained naturally aspirated. Its maximum rated power is 386kW and peak torque is 630Nm mated with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission from the SL 63 AMG. Incidentally the power figures of the two über Benzes are now matched. The conventional torque converter has been done away with in favour of a wet start-up clutch. Three changing modes can be actuated; Controlled Efficiency, Sport, and Manual. The latter is the more fun option where the driver changes gears using either the paddles behind the steering wheel or the gear lever itself.
Mercedes-Benz says the E 63 AMG will accelerate from 0 - 100km/h in just 4.5 seconds and top off at an electronically limited speed of 250km/h. Stopping power can be assisted by the optional ceramic brakes. Lightweight forged 19-inch AMG light-alloy wheels with size 255/35 R 19 tyres at the front and 285/30 R 19 at the rear are fitted. Other differences include an AMG spoiler lip on the boot lid, a roller blind for rear window, Nappa leather appointments for the seats, the top section of the dashboard, the beltlines, the door armrests as well as the centre console and door centre panels.
AMG has chosen to use a new speed-sensitive rack-and-pinion steering system for more direct responsiveness. It helps when cornering hard, helped by the newly developed AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension, but is comfort-friendly too when the suspension system is in comfort mode. Thus the day-to-day usability of the car is not compromised by its high performance abilities. Even the ESP can be personalised, from "on", to "sport" to "off".

Caractere styling kit for Audi Q5
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=767
This October the car tuner Caractere will introduce a new styling kit for the Audi Q5. If ever there was an official S or even an RS version of the Q5 this Caractere would probably stand a good chance of being picked off the designs queue.
The kit consists of a complete front bumper that is compatible with the company's S-line version. Other pieces include the roof spoiler, a ten-piece set of wheel arch extensions (also compatible with the S-line version) and a rear hatch blend. Lastly the rear spoiler, with or without exhaust with left and right tips is installed.
All the aforementioned parts are made from PURim. The CW1 wheels fitted are already on offer for this kind of vehicle. These are 18-inch, 19-inch and 20-inch in size.

New Jaguar XF Supercharged model pumped to 346kW
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=765
Jaguar introduced a new model for the North American market today. The 2010 Jaguar XF Supercharged sees an increase in power over the previous edition by the same name. The automaker also released U.S. pricing information for the XF lineup.
The new XF Supercharged churns out 346kW and up to 575Nm from its 5.0-liter AJ-V8 Gen III engine. This engine was shown off earlier in the year at the Detroit Auto Show, but had only been planned in naturally aspirated form for the 2010 XF. At Detroit, Jaguar said the XFR would only get the 5.0-liter supercharged unit, tuned to deliver 375kW on that model.
"The Jaguar XF Supercharged will offer consumers a compelling luxury sedan choice with benchmark handling ability and truly memorable performance," said Jaguar Managing Director Mike O'Driscoll.
Jag's new XF Supercharged has 12% more horses under the hood compared to the 2009 Supercharged XF, which used the 4.2-liter engine. The new model has a 0-100 km/h time of 4.9 seconds, and makes use of both Active Differential Control and Adaptive Dynamics. Each of these systems comes standard, along with ventilated disc brakes, painted calipers, quad-tailpipes, and 20-inch, five triple-spoke alloy wheels. Rich Oak veneer trim is available on this model only, which also features twin needle upholstery stitching, premium headliner, heated steering wheel, and a 440-Watt Bowers & Wilkens surround sound system with HD radio.
Sales of the 2010 Jaguar XF Supercharged will begin in October 2009.

Seat Leon facelift tuning package by JE Design
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=766
Building upon their five previous Seat Leon styling kits in various forms, JE Design has announced yet another new styling package for Seat's recently updated Leon.
The company starts out by offering an extensive aerodynamic body kit that consists of a new front spoiler, aggressive side skirts, and a bold rear apron in mock carbon fiber. Should that fail to spark your interest, JE Design also offers a massive rear wing, a matt black grille, "headlights masks", and a hood scoop.
To give the Leon a sporty stance, JE Design offers a sport spring lowering kit that reduces the ride height 35mm up front and 15mm out back. If that isn't enough for your tastes, they also offer a more aggressive coilover lowering kit that reduces ride height by up to 65mm.
Other styling options include the usual assortment of alloy wheels (in 17, 18 and 19 inches), a stainless steel dual central exhaust, and a slightly sportier stainless steel quad exhaust.
