http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=1585

The 2011 Citroen C4 has been revealed on the web.

Set to go on sale next year, the redesigned hatchback features aggressive headlights, a bolder grille, and additional chrome accents. Out back, there's a roof-mounted spoiler, a classier rear bumper, and modern taillights.

Inside, the cabin boasts a massive steering wheel, metallic accents, and an improved center stack. Other goodies include a high-tech instrument cluster (which offers a variety of a setting), 408 liters of cargo capacity, and an eTouch system that monitors fuel consumption and driving habits. On the options list there are massaging front seats, a blind-spot monitoring system, and a panoramic sunroof.

Under the hood, we can expect the usual turbocharged petrols and HDi diesels. More importantly, Citroen will launch a C4 Hybrid with a 1.6-liter e-HDi diesel engine. While details are limited, the hybrid will feature regenerative braking, an engine stop/start system, and low-rolling resistance tires. Emissions are expected to be 109 g/km, but those numbers could fall to 99 g/km in more eco-friendly variants.

Look for more information to be released when the C4 is officially unveiled at the Paris Motor Show.

Man arrested for 'testing' Tracker

http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=1586

A 24-year-old man was arrested for defeating the ends of justice after he made a hoax phone call to a tracking company, claiming his car had been stolen, Cape Town police said on Tuesday.

At around 8.30pm on Monday, the man phoned the Tracker company to report he had been held up by two gunmen who had then stolen his car, Maitland police spokesman Warrant Officer Siyabulela Vukubi
said.

"The tracking company then activated the tracker in order to trace the client's vehicle," he said.

"The complaint was also dispatched to the SAPS K9 Unit to search for the vehicle and the tracker signal was then picked up and followed to where the vehicle was parked in Product street, Maitland."

When the tracking company phoned the man to inform him that his vehicle had been recovered, he told them to cancel the complaint,Vukubi said.

"It transpired that the complainant was in fact not hijacked but was merely testing the response of the SAPS and the tracking company."

The man was arrested when he went to collect his vehicle and would appear in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

N2 tolls may 'cause unrest'

http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=1587

The controversial tollgates planned for the N2 have the potential to cause unrest in KwaZulu-Natal, the ANC in the province warned on Tuesday.

“We are concerned that this matter has a potential of causing unrest and that an urgent political intervention is needed in order to quell the potentially explosive situation,” said ANC provincial secretary Sihle Zikalala.

He said the ANC was pleased that the provincial government would soon meet Transport Minister Sibusiso Ndebele to discuss the matter.

“We are totally unhappy and against the introduction of these tollgates,” said Zikalala.

“We believe that they will put an added economic burden [on] our people,” he said.

Widespread resistance

The environmental affairs department's recent decision to approve the tolling of additional sections of the N2, had been met with resistance from provincial government, the business sector and civic organisations.

The eThekwini Municipality was against the Isipingo tollgate, which would be erected near the old Durban International Airport.

Zikalala said the ANC felt there was a need to speak to the SA National Roads Agency Limited which determined where tollgates were erected.

The KwaZulu-Natal government last month announced it would canvass public views on the tollgates planned for the province.

It was doing so as it felt the planned tollgates would be a huge burden on financially struggling motorists and would slow economic growth.

Lotus Elise and Exige set to receive V6 power?

http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=1589

Hard-working spies caught a Lotus Exige that sounded very similar to an accompanying Evora nearby. In addition to the sound, widened wheel arches were noticed. Although not measured, the rear wheels appeared to sit slightly further back, suggesting a longer wheelbase.

The Exige is currently powered by a Toyota-sourced 1.8-litre four-cylinder. At its most hardcore (as used by the supercharged Exige 265E) it makes 197 kW and 249 Nm of torque. Now it seems its days are over.

Big brother Evora is about to donate his own Toyota-based V6 powerplant to the Exige as well as the Elise. Although notably heavier, the V6 also comes with more power and torque to the tune of 206 kW and 350 Nm.

Rumours of such a marriage first surfaced last autumn but did not translate into anything concrete. Apparently management changes at Lotus put the project on hold until certain financial obligations were cleared. The car was seen less than two weeks ago.
