BRABUS B63 S Tuning for Mercedes E 63 AMG
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=1050
BRABUS will exhibit the Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG-based BRABUS B63 S at the 2009 Essen Motor Show. The famous tuner kept the 6.3-litre (6208cc) V8 natural, meaning no superchargers or turbos are installed. Using its so-called BRABUS B63 S kit power and torque were improved from the standard 386kW and 630Nm to 408kW and 650Nm respectively. The magic was achieved through two sport air filters, free-flow metal catalysts and newly programmed engine electronics.
As a result the 0 - 100km/h sprint is reduced to 4.3 seconds and top speed goes up to 320km/h. A limited slip differential (LSD) with a locking rate of 40 percent ensures optimal grip at all times.
The aerodynamic package was developed in a wind tunnel and includes a carbon fibre front spoiler lip, a rear diffuser and a rear spoiler. The front fenders have lateral air outlets which don't just glamourise the car's looks but serve to improve venting. Custom-tailored wheel and tyre combinations include 18, 19 and 20-inch sizes shod with Pirelli or Yokohama high-performance tyres sized 245/30 ZR 20 up front and up to 295/25 ZR 20 at the rear.
Interior equipment choices include durable BRABUS Mastik leather and Alcantara, carbon fibre inlays, wood and many electronic gadgets to suit different desires.

Superchips Golf GTi MkVI ECU Remap Adds 33kW
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=1051
British tuner Superchips has a Golf GTI tuning package to rival the Golf R.
The ECU tuning being done here seems to be about more than just amping up the horsepower ratings. Superchips wants to create a more responsive engine that can make the Golf GTI improve its performance capability to a finer, measurable degree.
Peak power is boosted by 19 kW and 64 Nm of torque. But the power across the rev band is doled out to optimize flexibility, with Superchips' Bluefin ECU system adding 33 kW at 4737 rpm and 72 Nm of torque at 4450 rpm.
The Buckingham-based tuner claims that a Superchips Golf GTI weighing in at 1271 kg with a power output of 174 kW and 343 Nm comes close to matching the performance of the 1475 kg Golf R with 199 kW and 350 Nm. Tough to argue with that.
The work can be done either by technicians on site or self-installed by the customer using a Bluefin handset plugged right into the ECU in the engine bay. Superchips says the process is easily done and takes only minutes.

Porsche Cayman X-Wide by XTR Carchip
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=1052
German tuner XTR Carchip Tuning has unveiled this 2006 Porsche Cayman "987" S with a wide body kit and a couple of engine modifications. The body has a front spoiler with carbon splitter, side skirts, carbon fibre mirrors, rear side panels and detachable GRP fenders. The Pirelli tyres are wrapped around 3-piece 18-inch BBS RS wheels with central locking. The suspension was upgraded and a new Super Sprint "Magnum" exhaust system.
The interior features a new carbon fibre dashboard, 6-point seatbelts for the Recaro GT3 seats, a safety roll cage, air conditioning and the original factory audio system.
Power increased from 217kW to 228kW though some slight engine chip tuning. While this is quite a modest gain, XTR has given assurances that come spring 2010 a prescription that includes twin turbos will lead to a push of about 625kW.
Despite its looks, the Cayman is intended for the street with some hobby track racing on the side.

Mercedes' AMG Division Considering Diesel?
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=1053
Mercedes-Benz's AMG division is considering a number of fuel sources that include diesel for its future cars. According to a Whatcar report, Oliver Wiech, AMG's product manager for the C-Class, E-Class, SLK and SL did not exclude the possible use of diesel power for upcoming models.
"We are taking an open view and looking at lots of options," Wiech said, "but if you look at our announcement on the electric SLS, you can see what is in the future."
That means electricity is a definite while others such as hydrogen, solar energy and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) are possibly only secondary considerations.
A 2008 report published in WCF speculated that a new C-Class AMG super diesel worth about 368kW and 900Nm would be built by the year 2011.

BMW 7 Series M Sport Receives EAS Matt Black Trim
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=1054
Californian tuner European Auto Source has unveiled its own spruced up version of the Frankfurt-debuted M Sport package for the 7-Series. EAS build upon what is already a solid sports kit: Aerodynamics Package, chrome trim on both front and rear aprons and a 19-inch double-spoke alloy design with front and rear wheels wearing differing, optimised tyre sizes. EAS haven't just taken that further, they've also swapped chrome highlights for a fiercer, matt black trim.
Aside from ditching the chrome in favour of matt black side and kidney grilles, matt black OEM rear diffuser, Style 312 OEM 21-inch matt black alloys and a new, converted front bumper replacing chrome with, yes, matt black, EAS also add body-coloured door handles and trunk trim.
All in all, a great improvement. But assumedly at a cost which - although unannounced - is likely to total a few thousand dollars.
