The 911 Turbo S features a boost of 22 kW over the standard 911 Turbo, dialing horsepower up to 390 kW, while torque stays put at 700 Nm including the overboost, 650 Nm without. Top speed is up just slightly (by 3 km/h) at 315 km/h. Fuel consumption also remains the same as the standard Turbo at 11.4 liters/100 km.
Additional goodies to entice buyers to this range-topping 911 include providing the 911 Turbo S with all the options available on the 911 Turbo as standard. The 911 Turbo S will come with Porsche's 7-speed PDK (double-clutch) transmission, Porsche traction management (PTM) for the all-wheel drive system, as well as Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) which includes a differential lock for the rear axle. Also part of the standard package is the Launch Control and Sport Chrono Package that help accelerate this 911 Turbo S from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds, shaving up to a tenth of a second from the "regular" 911 Turbo's time with PDK.
Other standard features include 19-inch central locking wheels in an RS Spyder design and a two-tone leather finish in either Black/Crema or Black/Titanium Blue.
The Porsche 911 Turbo S will come as both a cabriolet and coupe model. It will be available in dealerships starting in May (2010).

AK-Car Design Envisions SLS AMG
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=1221
When former Lorinser tuner Adolf Koch hit retirement age, he knew he still desired to be creative. That's why at 65-years-old, and after 47 years with Lorinser, he chose to form his own company.
His newest design is a proposal for the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. As seen in these renderings, the package begins at the front with a new grille with black honeycomb elements. This is also reflected nicely in the new bumper at the air inlets. The suggested new sidesills look nicer than stock, and flow better with the look up front.
The new rear bumper incorporates quad tailpies instead of dual pipes, and replaces the rear diffuser. About the only thing not likable on the car are the wheels.
AK-Car Design offers an entire kit for the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, and a few parts for several Audi models. Koch's firm has also developed renderings for the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and SL-Class.
We expect to see more work from Koch in the near future as well as a Geneva debut for the SLS.

Peugeot 107's in SA cleared
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=1222
PSA Peugeot Citroen recently launched a precautionary recall on its Peugeot 107 and Citroen C1 ranges. Local 107s are now known to be unaffected.
Following Toyota's global recall of eight of its models to solve a potential accelerator pedal issue, PSA issued a precautionary recall on the models built in a joint venture alongside Toyota's Aygo at the Kolin facility in the Czech Republic.
The recall affects less than 10% of 107s and C1s in Europe, but Peugeot in South Africa says 107s imported into the country are not affected.

Magistrate backs lawlessness
http://www.maxauto.co.za/CntView.aspx?CatID=26&CntID=1223
Gauteng Chief Magistrate Daniel Thulare will be referred to the Magistrates' Commission for saying drivers can drive without a licence, the transport ministry said on Monday.
Department spokesperson Logan Maistry said Transport Minister Sibusiso Ndebele said Thulare's comments were "disconcerting, misleading and totally unethical".
Thulare said in the Sowetan on Monday, drivers who could prove they had a learner's licence which had expired while the driver was trying to obtain a testing date for a driver's licence, would be able to legally drive on South African roads.
'Conviction unlawful'
"Any conviction of a citizen for driving without a licence would therefore be unlawful if the state itself has failed to test that person," Thulare said.
However, Ndebele was quoted as saying in a statement: "Why is magistrate Thulare, who is supposed to be a custodian of our law, advocating lawlessness?"
"The supremacy of our Constitution and the rule of law are foundational to the democracy established by the Constitution. Whilst we respect the independence of the judiciary, in all constitutional democracies the judiciary plays a pivotal role in shaping society."
"The judiciary therefore needs to engender trust, integrity and moral rectitude."
Illegal
Ndebele said any person caught driving without a driver's licence on South African roads would be arrested.
"Based on Magistrate Thulare's comments on driving licences, may we then assume that an accused who appears in court, and the case is remanded several times as a result of no fault of the accused, should simply ignore warnings to appear in court again?
Should persons who have been unsuccessful several times in obtaining a firearm licence simply continue to be in possession of a firearm without a valid licence?"
"According to the National Road Traffic Act [Act 93 of 1996], any person who drives a motor vehicle on a public road must be in possession of a valid driving licence. Therefore, it is illegal to drive a motor vehicle without a valid driving licence," he said.
"In the event of a collision, the driver will be charged for being unlicensed and a civil claim for damages may also be instituted against an unlicensed driver."
Safety
Ndebele said an unlicensed driver not only posed a threat to his or her own safety but also to the safety of other road users.
The Johannesburg Metro Police Department had not received any amended legislation that allowed a person to drive without a licence, Inspector Edna Mamonyane said.
"Until we receive that, unlicensed drivers will be fined," she said.
"We agree that the booking system is not working, but that does not mean you do not have to follow the law," she said.
Ndebele said the department of transport was continuously working with provinces and municipalities on service delivery problems relating to testing stations.
